Colcemid Solution (10 µg/ml) in DPBS is commonly used for lymphocyte karyotyping for chromosome analysis. N-Deacetyl-N-methylcolchicine (colcemid) is a colchicine derivative with the advantage of being less toxic. Colcemid disaggregates microtubules into monomers and inhibits their formation. Appropriate dilutions inactivate spindle formation, arresting cell division in metaphase, allowing cell harvesting and karyotyping.

It is commonly used in lymphocyte karyotyping for chromosome analysis.

Colcemid breaks down microtubules into monomers and inhibits their formation.
